Mission

This interactive website was designed to help researchers and practitioners to select the D&I Model that best fits their research question or practice problem, adapt the model to the study or practice context, fully integrate the model into the research or practice process, and find existing measurement instruments for the model constructs. The term ‘Model’ is used to refer to both theories and frameworks that make the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions more likely.


Method

The initial set of models for this website were selected from two reviews of the D&I literature:

Tabak RG, Khoong EC, Chambers DA, Brownson RC. Bridging Research and Practice: Models for Dissemination and Implementation Research. Am J Prev Med 2012;43(3):337-350.

Mitchell SA, Fisher CA, Hastings CE, Silverman LB, Wallen GR. A Thematic Analysis of Theoretical Models for Translational Science in Nursing: Mapping the Field. Nurs Outlook 2010;58(6):287-300.

Additional models are added based on expert recommendations and as they become available. Each model is categorized using the criteria by Tabak and colleagues:

An abstraction form was developed to abstract information about additional models. Each model was categorized by two experts and a consensus was reached.

Constructs and subconstructs were abstracted from each model and a modified Delphi approach was used to create meta-constructs.


Team

This website was developed by the The Center for Research in Implementation Science and Prevention (CRISP) through the ACCORDS Education Program (Adult and Child Center for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science) in collaboration with colleagues from the Washington University Network for Dissemination and Implementation Research (WUNDIR) and support from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Implementation Science team.
